Seaweed Based Bioplastic To End The Plastic Waste & Microplastic Crisis
Building Ephemeral Materials For A Healthier Planet.
The Problem:
Plastic.
Single-use plastics have become an indispensable part of our daily lives. From online shopping to buying groceries to eating at fast food or casual restaurants, much of what we buy comes in packaging or with utensils that will end up in a landfill. Most of those products are made of plastic which can take hundreds of years to decompose, if at all, causing significant harm to our planet.
The Solution:
Seaweed-Based Pellets, Films, and Foams as Replacements for Plastic.
Ephemrial provides sustainable solutions for companies who use plastic to make their products or packaging. Our goal: end the waste crisis by inspiring businesses to make better choices.
Our materials, made from seaweed, a renewable resource, are eco-friendly and biodegradable. We offer pellets for manufacturing, films for packaging, and foams for various applications, helping brands turn their innovative designs into products that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also practical, functional, and environmentally safe.
Biodegradability: A Step Beyond Compostability.
While many bioplastics tout compostability, most consumers lack access to compost facilities. Many products claiming biodegradability take over 100 years to decompose. Our material is designed to break down within 45-60 days under the right conditions, addressing the urgent need for genuinely biodegradable alternatives. By choosing our materials, companies can contribute to a sustainable future, ensuring their products disappear quickly and harmoniously with nature.

Why Seaweed?Seaweed in many ways is a super plant for the environment. Unlike other biodegradable materials that require commercial composting processes, massive land and water use, and encourage harmful unsustainable practices, seaweed naturally grows in abundance around the world. Seaweed gets all of the water it needs from the world’s oceans and requires no land usage. In contrast, Polylactic acid (or PLA), the popular corn-derived “biodegradable” plastic, won’t break down unless it ends up in an industrial composting facility. Seaweed is also excellent for capturing carbon and presents an economic opportunity for struggling coastal communities around the world.

Earth Materials & The Future Of CommerceThis is just the beginning. Today, we're focused on single-use plastic products, but soon we'll expand to other plastic items. From packaging materials to films and everyday plastic objects, we're working towards a future where biomaterials replace plastics, harmonizing with humans and nature. Our material is ideal for grocery chains, including produce bags, bread bags, deli and meat wrapping, frozen food packaging, bulk item bags, and sandwich bags. In the fast food and fast casual restaurant sectors, our bioplastic excels as burger wrappers, fry bags, disposable utensil packaging, straw wrappers, and hot drink stirrers.
Our Commitment to Innovation and Community.
